Tips to Help Plan Your Party
Choosing a Venue
When deciding on a venue consider the following- How easy is it for your guests to reach - will it be expensive by taxi? Would you need to provide a coach?
- Is the room suitable for the number of guests? - too small and they'll be cramped; too large and it's harder to create the right atmosphere
- Can the venue provide food and a bar facility?
- Will you be allowed to decorate the room?
Inviting Guests
- Decide how you will invite your guests to your party. Some ideas are:
- Written invites
- Social networking sites
- Phone, email or text message
- Set a date for guests to respond by.
Food, Drink & Music
If the venue can provide the food it does make planning easier. If not you'll either need to hire outside event caterers or prepare it yourself (with help from friends & family of course). Consider the kind of food and the timings for it. If you want a 'grazing type buffet' for a length of time you may need either hot plates or refrigeration to keep the food fresh.
If the venue can also provide bar facilities then this is one less thing to be involved in. If not, again, there are outside event companies who can look after this or you could find a wholesaler prepared to offer sale or return and glasses too. If you plan to charge for alcoholic drinks at your party then you may also need a temporary licence.

Having a Theme Party
Whether its a
birthday party, anniversary or any other celebration, having a theme
helps to create a party atmosphere and adds to the fun. People who
attend parties in fancy dress tend to enter into the party spirit more
readily. Below are a few ideas to give you inspiration.
Decades - parties themed as 60s, 70s or 80s night. Before deciding on a
decade, consider whether the music for that period is suitable to the
majority of your guests and how easy it is to acquire the
outfit/clothing.
The 80s contains a multitude of timeless dance fillers. Fancy dress
could be centred around the hit movies of the decade which included such
classics as Batman, Star Wars, ET, Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters.
The 70s gave rise to glam rock, both the distinctive sound and the dress
code. This is probably the decade with the most diverse musical styles
such as Northern Soul, Motown, disco........ so something for everyone.
60s music is timeless with all age groups, enjoying good rhythmic
foot-tapping music. The 60s code of dress is very easy for all your
guests to achieve.
Rock'n'roll - sounds from the 50s and early 60s, with an array of happy
songs and a distinctive style of dress - a hit with both young and old.
Hollywood movies gave rise to some classic disco dances. Your guests
could either dress as movie characters or as if they are attending an
awards ceremony. You could stage your own 'Oscars' night, presenting
your guests with trophies for unusual attributes such as 'person with
the most plausible excuses for being late'.
There are other themes that don't determine the choice of music such as
gangsters and molls, pop legends, famous people, school disco etc.
